Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for the 300 MW Barsingsar Solar Power Plant in Rajasthan's Bikaner district, as part of the government's efforts to promote renewable energy and achieve the net-zero vision.
About Barsingsar Solar Power Plant
NLC India Limited, which is a Navratna CPSE under the Ministry of Coal, is currently in the process of setting up a 300 MW Solar Power Project in Barsingsar, Bikaner District, Rajasthan, as part of the CPSE Scheme of the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy.
The aim of this project is to provide affordable power supply to various Government entities.
It's worth noting that NLCIL is the first CPSE to achieve a 1 GW Solar capacity milestone in the country.
The company has secured a 300 MW solar project capacity in the CPSE Scheme Phase-II Tranche-III that was floated by Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) through competitive bidding.
The solar project, equipped with cutting-edge technology, including high-efficiency bifacial modules manufactured in India, aligns with the Atma Nirbhar Bharat initiative led by Prime Minister Modi.
The electricity produced will be transmitted through the existing transmission lines of Barsingsar Thermal Power Station.
The project aims to produce around 750 million units of green power annually and offset carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 18,000 tons over its lifetime.
The Power Usage Agreement for the project has been signed with Rajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam Limited at a competitive tariff of Rs. 2.52/unit for the next 25 years.
The project is expected to be commissioned by September 2024 and has the potential to create indirect employment opportunities for approximately 600 individuals during the project phase and 100 personnel during the Operations & Maintenance phase.
Furthermore, this project will enable the State of Rajasthan to fulfill its Renewable Purchase Obligation while contributing to the nation's journey towards achieving a Net Zero future.
Barsingsar Thermal Power Station
NLCIL currently operates the 250 MW Barsingsar Thermal Power Station (BTPS) which provides cost-effective electricity to the state of Rajasthan.
BTPS uses environmentally friendly Circulating Fluidized Bed Combustion technology and is fueled by the pithead 2.1 MTPA Barsingsar Mine, which has been awarded a prestigious Five Star Rating by the Ministry of Coal for its exceptional performance.
The Ministry of Coal's commitment to sustainable energy is a significant step towards a greener and more resilient future for the nation, in line with national development.
Rajasthan has immense potential for solar energy
Rajasthan, the largest state in India, receives the highest amount of solar radiation in India with over 325 sunny days per year.
According to the US Department of Energy, Rajasthan receives the second largest amount of solar radiation in the world.
Rajasthan is best suited for solar power generation since average rainfall is very low.
Rajasthan has abundant land, so it would be ideal for solar PV.
