The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) launched ‘Operation Trident’ to dismantle a major international drug trafficking network. On October 23, 2026, 38 multi-agency teams executed simultaneous raids at 38 locations across Assam, Mizoram, and Manipur.
The crackdown targeted the cartel's cross-border supply lines, hawala money channels, and key syndicates. The action supports the Central Government's zero-tolerance policy against narcotics and aligns with India's goal to eradicate drug networks by December 31, 2029.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah detailed the operation's results in a public announcement. Agencies uncovered nearly ₹100 crore in hawala transactions, froze 1,424 bank accounts, and attached illicit properties valued at ₹17.82 crore. Officers also seized 500 detonators, ₹12 lakh in cash, and arrested 18 key operatives.
Investigators mapped the syndicate's trafficking route across the Myanmar–Mizoram–Manipur–Assam–Tripura corridor. The network smuggled methamphetamine (Yaba tablets) and high-grade heroin from Myanmar into mainland India and Bangladesh.
Operation Trident shifts the enforcement focus from simple contraband confiscation to complete financial disruption using digital forensics and property attachments.
