The first edition of the Naval Commanders Conference 2024 is scheduled to begin on 05 Mar 24. The conference will be organised in a hybrid format, where the first phase will be held at sea.

  • The Indian Navy's annual Commanders Conference is a crucial event that brings together Naval Commanders to discuss strategic, operational, and administrative issues related to maritime security. 
  • The conference is held against the backdrop of emerging geopolitical dynamics, regional challenges and the current volatile maritime security situation of the region. It plays an important role in shaping the future course of the Indian Navy.
  • During the three-day event, Hon'ble Defence Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh, will address the Naval Commanders. 
  • During the conference the Chief of Defense Staff, along with the Chiefs of Staff of the Indian Army and Indian Air Force, along with Naval Commanders will also discuss the convergence of the three services in the light of the common national security environment. 
  • They will explore ways to enhance tri-service synergy and readiness to safeguard the nation and national interests of India.
  • The conference's inaugural session will see the Hon’ble Raksha Mantri embark on a sea mission to witness the Indian Navy’s ability to conduct ‘twin carrier operations' with both aircraft carriers. This will serve as a demonstration of the Indian Navy's operational capabilities.
  • The past six months have witnessed significant changes in the geopolitical landscape in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) due to the Israel-Hamas conflict. 
  • The strategic alignment of nations has resulted in kinetic actions on land spilling over into the Maritime Domain. The Indian Navy has responded to these emerging threats with strength and resolve, demonstrating its capability as a first responder and its commitment as a ‘Preferred Security Partner in the region’.

Naval Detachment Minicoy

The Indian Navy is setting up to commission the naval detachment in Minicoy, Lakshadweep on March 06. It was named INS Jatayu. Admiral R Hari Kumar, Chief of the Naval Staff, will be present at the event, an important milestone in the Navy's efforts to enhance security infrastructure at the Lakshadweep Islands. Naval Detachment Minicoy was established in the early 1980s and operates under the command of Naval Officer-in-Charge (Lakshadweep)
