Delhi Police has launched Operation Shastra to target individuals who share photos with weapons and use objectionable language on online social media platforms.
- S.K. Jain, Joint Commissioner of Police of Delhi Police’s Southern Range, said that Delhi Police launched Operation Shastra to target individuals who were sharing photos with weapons and using objectionable language on online social media platforms.
- Mr. Jain said that the entire operation was conducted against those who wanted to create an atmosphere of fear through social media. He said that more than 500 teams and more than 2,000 police personnel were involved in this operation.
- Highlighting the success of Operation Shastra, Mr. Jain said that based on sixty-one registered FIRs and more than 6,000 social media profiles, Delhi Police arrested 83 accused.
- More than 500 teams and over 2,000 personnel were involved, who examined more than 6,000 profiles, resulting in 83 arrests (67 adults, 16 minors), 61 FIRs registered, 82 weapons and 93 live cartridges seized.
- Delhi Police released data showing a decrease in missing persons cases in the national capital in January 2026 compared to last year.
- The data shows that the number of missing persons in Delhi has remained largely stable over the past decade, with annual figures remaining between 23,000 and 24,000 since 2016 despite the city’s growing population.
- In January 2026, 1,777 missing cases were registered, while approximately 2,000 cases are recorded on average each month in the national capital.
- Delhi Police data shows that since 2016, a total of 1,80,805 missing persons have been traced and reunited with their families, reflecting a recovery rate of approximately 77 percent.

- Punjab Police clarified that under ‘Operation Prahar-2’ only persons wanted in crime will be arrested.
