India's First Industrial-Scale Biopolymer Manufacturing Plant in Uttar Pradesh

India's first large-scale biopolymer manufacturing plant is nearing completion in Lakhimpur Kheri district, Uttar Pradesh, with a total investment of ₹3,080 crore. Kheri District Magistrate Anjani Kumar Singh recently inspected the under-construction facility, reviewing its progress ahead of its expected launch in October.

The facility will produce 80,000 tonnes of PLA annually from sugarcane.

The plant is designed to convert locally grown sugarcane into Polylactic Acid (PLA), a type of bioplastic, all within a single campus. This means the entire process, from harvesting sugarcane to producing sugar and then transforming it into PLA-based bioplastic happens at one location, making it a fully integrated manufacturing setup. The facility is expected to produce around 80,000 tonnes of PLA every year once it becomes operational.

Key Features of India's First Biopolymer Plant

1. Features a Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) system, ensuring no harmful liquid waste is released into nearby rivers or drains
2. Entire manufacturing process, from sugarcane to sugar to bioplastic, takes place on a single integrated campus
3. District Magistrate reviewed the technical workflow of sugarcane-to-PLA conversion and overall production layout during inspection
4. Expected to add a new dimension to Kheri's agriculture-based industrial development
