UP-Japan Investment Meet 2026: Driving Uttar Pradesh Toward a $1 Trillion Economy

Uttar Pradesh is hosting the UP-Japan Investment Meet 2026 from August 18-23, bringing together over 200 Japanese business leaders, CEOs, and policymakers to explore investment opportunities across the state. The initiative is part of UP's broader push toward becoming a $1 trillion economy, with a focus on attracting Japanese investment in sectors like semiconductors, digital infrastructure, and data centres.

UP-Japan Five-Day Program Focuses on Investment, Technology Partnerships

1. The high-level Japanese delegation, led by Kotaro Nagasaki, Governor of Yamanashi Prefecture, was welcomed in New Delhi on August 18 by Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and UP CM Yogi Adityanath. 
2. A CEO Roundtable and inaugural session followed on August 19, with senior Union ministers including Ashwini Vaishnaw and Shivraj Singh Chouhan also participating. 
3. The main investment conference was held in Lucknow on August 21, featuring matchmaking sessions between government representatives and businesses, as well as between businesses themselves.
4. Throughout the five-day programme, discussions covered manufacturing, clean and green energy, semiconductors, digital infrastructure, skill development, and tourism.

₹3,191 Crore Projects in YEIDA

A major highlight of the event was the virtual ground-breaking ceremony for two large projects in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) region. Escorts Kubota is setting up a ₹2,025 crore facility to manufacture tractors and construction equipment, expected to create over 3,800 jobs. Minda Corporation is investing ₹1,166 crore across two projects focused on manufacturing ignition switch-cum-steering locks, mechatronic components, and wiring harnesses, generating around 6,440 jobs. Together, these projects bring in ₹3,191 crore of investment and are expected to create more than 10,000 jobs.

500-Acre Dedicated Japanese City in YEIDA for Japanese Companies

The UP government also plans to develop a 500-acre Japanese city within YEIDA, designed specifically for Japanese companies, their suppliers, and ancillary industries. This move aims to strengthen supply-chain integration and support technology transfer between Japanese firms and their Indian counterparts.

The U.P.-Japan Investment Meet 2026 Witnessed the Exchange of Key MoUs

Several important MoUs were signed during the event, spanning skilling, tourism, and workforce development.

1. Invest UP signed an agreement with the Technical Training & Research Centre, Kanpur, alongside recognition for Japan Technical Training Centre's Director and UP trainees placed in Japan. 
2. The Tourism Department and Yamanashi Prefecture signed an MoU to promote tourism exchange. 
3. A separate MoU between Invest UP and Yamanashi Prefecture aims to support the setup of Japanese Global Capability Centres in UP. 
4. The Labour Department also signed an MoU with Yamanashi Prefecture to ensure a steady supply of Japanese-language proficient workers, supporting long-term industrial and workforce collaboration between the two regions.
