The National Teachers Awards 2026 will be conferred on 48 school teachers by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on September 5, marking Teachersโ Day. Short documentaries showcasing the notable work of each awardee will also be featured during the event.
The awards ceremony will be organised by the Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Education, as part of the annual Teachers Day celebrations. The event will be broadcast live on Doordarshan and the SWAYAM PRABHA channels and streamed online, allowing people across the country to watch the ceremony.

Uttar Pradesh leads this year's list with the highest number of awardees, having 3 teachers selected for the National Teachers Award 2026.
The National Teachers Award is given every year to recognise teachers who have made a real difference in improving school education and shaping the lives of their students. Rather than being a symbolic honour, it aims to celebrate teachers whose dedication and hard work have genuinely raised the standard of teaching in their schools and communities.
Teachers interested in the award could apply online through self-nomination between June 15 and July 20, 2026, via the Ministry of Education's dedicated portal. From these applications, the final 48 teachers were chosen through a structured, three-stage screening process conducted at the district, state, and national levels. This year's selected teachers represent 27 states, 7 Union Territories, and 6 Central Government organisations, reflecting the initiative'sย nationwide reach. Among the 48 awardees, 26 are male, and 22 are female teachers.
