Ministry of Defence (MoD) signed two major contracts worth ₹4,106 crore in New Delhi on October 15, 2026. These strategic deals will boost secure communications for the Indian Air Force and sharpen the Indian Navy’s anti-submarine capabilities.
Both contracts reinforce India's commitment to indigenous defence manufacturing under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Additional Secretary and Director General (Acquisition) Shri A Anbarasu led the signing ceremony.
The MoD awarded a ₹2,563 crore contract to New Space India Limited (NSIL), Bengaluru, for the dedicated GSAT-7C communication satellite. Indian engineers designed and manufactured this advanced space asset to upgrade military communications.
The Ministry signed a second contract valued at ₹1,543 crore with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), Hyderabad. BDL will manufacture and supply Varunastra Heavy Weight Torpedoes to the Indian Navy.
Developed by the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL), Varunastra is an indigenous, ship-launched anti-submarine weapon.
