Indian Navy to Commission Latest ASW Shallow Water Craft MALVAN

The Indian Navy will commission INS Malvan, the second Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) of the Mahe-class, on 22 July 2026. Built at Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), Kochi, the vessel strengthens India's shallow-water combat capability and reflects the country's growing self-reliance in warship construction.

1. Malvan is a compact yet capable warship purpose-built for anti-submarine operations in shallow coastal waters, where larger naval platforms are less effective.
2.  With over 80 percent indigenous content, the vessel stands as a strong example of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision applied to modern naval shipbuilding and design.
3. Despite its small size, Malvan is engineered for agility, precision, and endurance, qualities essential for maintaining dominance close to the coastline.
4.  Its commissioning adds another vessel to the Navy's expanding fleet of indigenous shallow-water warriors, reinforcing Cochin Shipyard's growing expertise in warship design, construction, and system integration.

Anti-Marine Warfare Malvan Commissioning Ceremony

The commissioning ceremony will be presided over by Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, Chief of the Air Staff. Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command, will also be present.
