Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) marked a major milestone for India's aerospace sector on September 18, 2026, handing over multiple indigenous aircraft to the Indian Air Force and Pawan Hans Limited in Bengaluru. The ceremony, held in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu, showcased India's growing capability in designing and manufacturing advanced aviation platforms.
Among the key deliveries were the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Final Operational Clearance (FOC) Twin Seater Trainers, handed over to the Indian Air Force. These trainer aircraft play a crucial role in preparing IAF pilots for combat-ready operations on the Tejas platform, strengthening the force's training infrastructure with a fully indigenous solution.
Alongside the Tejas trainers, HAL also delivered the HTT-40 Basic Trainer Aircraft to the IAF. Designed and built domestically, the HTT-40 is used to train pilots in the foundational stages of their flying careers, marking another step toward reducing India's dependence on imported training platforms.
In addition to the IAF deliveries, HAL handed over Dhruv Next Generation (NG) helicopters to Pawan Hans Limited (PHL), extending India's indigenous rotorcraft capability into the civil aviation space. This handover highlights how HAL's platforms serve dual purposes, supporting both military and civilian aviation needs.
Senior officials, including Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, Secretary (Defence Production) Sanjeev Kumar, and HAL CMD Ravi K, attended the event alongside representatives from the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Civil Aviation, and other stakeholders from the aerospace and defence sectors.
This handover reflects the government's continued push toward self-reliance in aerospace and defence manufacturing. By strengthening domestic design and production capabilities, India is steadily reducing its reliance on foreign aircraft and building a more robust indigenous aerospace ecosystem for the future.
