India Ranked 115th in Institute for Economics & Peace’s GPI 2025

The Sydney, Australia-based Institute for Economics and Peace has launched the 19th edition of the Global Peace Index (GPI). Iceland has consistently held the top position in this index since 2008.

• According to the Institute for Economics and Peace, based on the Global Peace Index (GPI), the number of state-based conflicts has reached its highest level since World War II, with three conflicts occurring this year alone.
• Iceland has retained its crown as the most peaceful country in the world, a title it has held since 2008. It scored the highest in all three domains of the index: safety, ongoing conflict, and militarization.
• In the Global Peace Index (GPI) 2025, Singapore has been declared the safest country in Asia and ranked sixth globally.
• India, with a score of 2.229, ranks 115th in this list, while Pakistan ranks 144th. Russia is ranked lowest among the 163 countries.

Global Peace Index, 2025

• Released by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), the 19th edition of the index evaluated 163 countries on parameters such as security, conflict, and militarization.
• The Global Peace Index is a key measure of global peace and security, based on 23 indicators across categories such as societal safety and security, ongoing domestic and international conflict, and degree of militarization.
• The Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) was founded in 2007 by Steve Killelea in Sydney, Australia. The Global Peace Index (GPI) was launched in 2008.
