India ended their International University Sports Federation ( FISU) World University Games campaign on 8th August 2023 with a record haul of 26 medals, including 11 gold, 5 silver and 10 bronze . The Indian shooting team won a total 14 out of the 26 medals won by India.
The Indian team finished at the 7th position on the medals tally with China topping the table with 178 medals including 103 gold.
This was India's best-ever performance at the FISU World University Games .Before the Chengdu games India’s best ever performance was at the Gwangju 2015 games ,where it won 5 medals including 1 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze.
The 31st edition of the 2023 FISU World University Games was held at Chengdu, China from 28 July to 8 August 2023. Student athletes in the age group of 17-25 years participate in the FISU World University Games.
The FISU World University Games is held every 2 years. The 2021 edition was postponed due to COVID-19. The 30th edition of the FISU World University Games was held in Naples, Italy in 2019.

The Fédération Internationale du Sport Universitaire ( International University Sports Federation) was set up in 1949.
FISU is the world governing body of national university sports organisations .
It is responsible for the organization and governance of worldwide sports competitions for student-athletes between the ages of 17 and 25.
Members: It currently has 174 member associations (National University Sport Federations) from five continents.
