The country’s first vertical bi-facial solar plant was recently inaugurated at the Okhla Vihar Metro station of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in New Delhi. The solar plant was inaugurated by the Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar.
The minister also inaugurated the 1 MW rooftop solar installation at the Khyber Pass metro depot of the DMRC.
Green Initiative of DMRC
DMRC has set a target to achieve 60 MW of installed solar power capacity by the completion of Delhi Metro’s Phase-4 project.
With the commissioning of the 1 MW rooftop solar installation at the Khyber Pass metro depot of the DMRC, Delhi Metro's total on-site rooftop solar capacity is 51 MW. These rooftop solar installations have been installed across 93 stations and 15 metro depots of the DMRC.
The DMRC is a joint venture between the government of India and the Delhi government. It was registered as a company under the Companies Act 1956 in 1995.
The DMRC operates the most modern urban metro rail system in India.
