The 38th meeting of the Central Advisory Board of Archaeology was hosted by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in New Delhi on 23rd April 2025. The meeting was hosted by the Director General of the Archaeological Survey of India, Yadubir Singh.
The 37th meeting of the Central Advisory Board of Archaeology was held on 14 June 2022 in New Delhi.
About the Central Advisory Board of Archaeology
The Central Advisory Board of Archaeology was constituted by the government of India in 1945. The Board is constituted by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, after every three years.
Function
- The Board plays a crucial role in building strong linkages between the ASI, Indian Universities, State Governments and Research Institutions working in the fields of archaeology, heritage studies and cultural preservation.
- It meets once a year to discuss matters relating to archaeology and advise the Union Ministry of Culture on any matters related to archaeology.
About Archaeological Survey of India (ASI)
The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) was established by the British Indian government in 1861.
The ASI comes under the administrative control of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
Function
- The Archaeological Survey of India is a premier and apex organisation for archaeological research in the country.
- It is responsible for the protection of cultural heritage of the country.
- As per the provisions of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act 1958, it regulates all archaeological activities in the country.
- The ASI is the only body in India responsible for the protection and management of archaeological sites in the country.
First Director General of ASI- Alexander Cunningham. He is also known as the father of Indian archaeology.
