India’s top squash player Anahat Singh in the Under-19 category and Abhay Singh were honored with the Asian Squash Federation (ASF) ‘ASF Player of the Year 2025’ awards. This award is also known by another name.
Anahat received this honor in the girls’ category, while Abhay received it in the men’s category.
Ranked 20th in the senior women’s singles squash world rankings, Anahat Singh won the ‘ASF Girls Player of the Year’ award based on her outstanding performance over the past year. This award is also known as the ‘Hassan Musa Award’.
‘Dato Alex Lee Award’ – Men: Abhay Singh (India)
ASF Women’s Player of the Year: Satomi Watanabe (Japan)
Hassan Musa Award – Women U19 (Junior): Anahat Singh (India)
Hassan Musa Award – Men U19 (Junior): Wa-Sern Lo (Malaysia)
ASF Award – Men’s Team: India (World Squash Junior Team Championship 2025)
ASF Award – Women’s Team: Hong Kong, China
ASF Development Award: Pakistan Boys Team
Anahat won a bronze medal at the ‘World Junior Championship’ held in Cairo and was also part of India’s gold medal-winning ‘World Cup Mixed Team’ last year.
Recently, she successfully defended her ‘Indian Open’ title and claimed the 16th PSA title of her career. Anahat defeated England’s Commonwealth Games champion Georgina Kennedy in February to win her first PSA bronze-level title. This victory in Washington placed her among the world’s top 20 players.
She made history by becoming the youngest Asian female squash player to achieve this feat, breaking the record of Malaysia’s legendary player Nicol David. She delivered an impressive performance in the 2024–25 season, due to which she was awarded both the ‘PSA Challenger Women’s Player of the Season’ and the ‘PSA Young Women’s Player of the Season’ last year.
Abhay recently won his first Indian Open title and was part of the team that, along with Anahat Singh, secured India’s first World Cup mixed team title last year. Abhay’s recent achievements include this maiden Indian Open title, and like Anahat, he was also part of India’s World Cup-winning team.
The last time Indian squash players won at the ASF Awards was in 2022, when former India number one Saurav Ghosal and veteran Joshna Chinappa won honors in the men’s and women’s categories respectively. After winning a bronze medal at the World Junior Team Championship 2025 held in Egypt, India also secured the men’s team award. Squash is set to make its debut at the Olympic Games to be held in Los Angeles in 2028.
The Asian Squash Federation was formed on Pakistan’s suggestion, and the first meeting of Asian squash-playing countries was held in Karachi on November 29, 1980. Its founding members were Bahrain, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.
The headquarters of the Asian Squash Federation (ASF) is located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, which serves as the administrative center of the organization. This federation organizes several championships, including the Asian Junior Super Series (AJSS) and the Asian Junior Individual Championship.
ASF is managed by a management committee, whose members include President Duncan Chiu and Vice Presidents Cyrus Poncha, Ryun-Ho Koo, and Adel Jassim Alghuraib.
