Accidental Insurance scheme for School Children in Rajasthan launched Rajasthan 4 min read

The government of Rajasthan has launched Shiksha Sanjeevani Bima Yojana to provide accidental insurance to schoolchildren in the state. This first-of-its-kind scheme will offer personal accident insurance coverage of Rs 1 lakh to 1.3 lakh to children and their parents enrolled in state government schools. Initially, the scheme will cover schools in the Udaipur Division.

Who launched the Scheme?

The State Education and Panchayati Raj Minister, Madan Dilawar launched the scheme.

The scheme was launched at the Shiksha Jeevan Personal Accident Insurance Ceremony organised at the Residency School of Udaipur on 26th February 2025.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister, Madan Dilawar said the scheme will be gradually expanded to all the schools in the state, benefitting around 1 crore students.

Funding of the Scheme and Partners 

Wonder Cement, Zurich Kotak General Insurance and State Bank of India are partners of the Shiksha Sanjeevani Bima Yojana scheme.

Role of Wonder Cement 

  • Wonder Cement will provide money to pay the insurance premium for the insured children in the Udaipur Division.
  • The money will be made available by Wonder Cement through its CSR(Corporate Social Responsibility) fund.
  • Under section 135 of the Companies Act 2013, certain companies must spend 2 % of their net profit of the preceding three years on social and other developmental activities mentioned in the Act.

Role of the Zurich Kotak General Insurance

  • The Zurich Kotak General Insurance Company will be the insurance provider for the scheme.
  • Zurich Kotak General Insurance Company (India) Limited is a joint venture between Zurich Insurance Group of Switzerland and Kotak Mahindra Bank. 
  • The Zurich Insurance Company owns 70% and Kotak Mahindra Bank owns a 30 % stake in the joint venture.

Role of the State Bank of India 

Under its financial inclusion initiative, the State Bank of India will open a no minimum balance requirement savings bank account for the enrolled students. 

The State Bank of India will deposit Rs 500 monthly in the account so that students can use the amount for their daily needs.

Feature of the Scheme 

  • The scheme will cover class 1-5 students of the state government school in the Udaipur division.
  • It will cover around 1.35 lakh children and their parents.
  • The insurance cover for the students will be Rs 1 lakh while for the parents it will be Rs 1.35 lakhs.
  • In case the parents of the insured student died due to an accident, the children will be provided scholarships with interest until 18 years of age.

Aim of the Scheme 

The scheme aims to:

  • Ensure continuity in children’s education, 
  • prevent child labour,
  • promoting financial inclusion through Digital India,
  • preventing misuse of insurance claim amounts, and 
  • Encourage a habit of saving from an early age
