The Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Vishnu Deo, has announced a massive transfer of funds under the Krishak Unnati Yojana in Balod, which aims to support farmers in the region.
The scheme, which was launched by the Chhattisgarh government, is designed to fulfill PM Modi's promise of purchasing paddy from farmers in the state at the rate of Rs 3100 per quintal.
Minimum Support Price (MSP)Before the Kharif and Rabi seasons, the government of India announces the Minimum Support Price (MSP). The MSP was initially established in India during the 1966-67 season to encourage farmers to implement modern scientific farming techniques, increase productivity, and meet the rising demand for grain production in the country. Commission for Agricultural Costs & Prices (CACP) and its role Established in 1965 as an expert committee under the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, the Commission for Agricultural Costs & Prices (CACP) plays a crucial role in determining the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of mandated crops by providing recommendations to the government. It should be noted, however, that these recommendations are not binding on the government. Mandated Crops under MSP The CACP has recommended that MSP be set for 22 different crops, including Paddy, Wheat, Maize, Sorghum, Pearl millet, Barley, Ragi, Chickpea/Gram, Tur, Moong, Urad, Lentil, Peanut, Rapeseed, Soybean, Sesame, Sunflower, Safflower, Niger seed, Copra, Sugarcane, Cotton, and Raw jute. Additionally, the Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, Government of India, determines the MSP for Toria and De-Husked coconut based on the MSPs of Rapeseed/Mustard Seed and Copra, respectively. |
