National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has implemented Trade Margin Rationalisation (TMR) for 137 non-scheduled anti-cancer drugs. Operating under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, the pricing regulator issued the official Gazette notification on October 17, 2026.
The policy intervention caps trade margins at 30% of the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) under Paragraph 19 of the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013. This move will slash retail prices of critical oncology medicines by up to 70%, taking effect on November 9, 2026.
The price cap applies to advanced targeted therapies, biologicals, and immunotherapies treating over 20 distinct cancer types.
An expert committee under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS)—comprising top oncologists, hospital directors, and health officials—recommended the final list of 137 molecules.
This initiative expands NPPA's 2019 TMR pilot project, which capped trade margins at 30% across 42 anti-cancer drugs. That earlier action reduced the MRPs of 526 commercial brands by up to 90%, generating hundreds of crores in savings for cancer patients.

The NPPA has issued strict compliance mandates to prevent market distortion or artificial stock hoarding:
Patients and caregivers can check updated prices and verify billing through the Pharma Sahi Daam mobile application and the official NPPA online portal.
The pricing authority also instructed manufacturers to maintain steady supply levels to ensure uninterrupted market availability across India.
