UGC NET Notification 2026 was released by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC) for the June 2026 cycle. The application process began on 29 April 2026 and continued till 20 May 2026. The UGC NET June 2026 exam is scheduled to be conducted from 22 June to 30 June 2026 in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode.
The UGC NET is one of the most important national-level eligibility tests for candidates who want to pursue careers in teaching and research. It is held twice a year, in June and December, to determine eligibility for Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) posts.
Candidates who are willing to appear for the UGC NET June 2026 cycle or are planning for the next session should go through the complete details below to check exam dates, eligibility, application process, and other important updates regarding the UGC NET.
The UGC-NET is intended to evaluate the eligibility of Indian nationals for various academic and research roles, including the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D. programs. Only 6% of the candidates will pass the Assistant Professor Exam. The UGC-NET June 2026 session will be held in a Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode at designated centers across Indian universities and colleges.
If you're aiming for a career in teaching or research, the UGC NET (National Eligibility Test) is the way to fulfil your dreams:
Those who secure a place in these institutions become eligible for a monthly fellowship from UGC, which helps cover tuition fees, research expenses, and living costs, allowing them to focus fully on their studies. The JRF award remains valid for three years from the date mentioned on the award letter. For candidates already enrolled in a Ph.D. program, the fellowship begins either from the date the NET results are declared or the date they join the program, whichever is later.
UGC NET 2026 Notification is out with all the required details that candidates must know before filling out the UGC NET Application Form 2026. Aspirants are strongly encouraged to thoroughly go through the UGC NET June Notification 2026 to understand key details such as the exam pattern, eligibility criteria, syllabus, important dates and other essential information. It’s important to note that selection for the exam is provisional and contingent upon the candidate meeting all the specified eligibility criteria.
Eligibility for the UGC-NET is determined based on a candidate’s overall performance in both papers of the exam. However, candidates who qualify only for ‘Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D.’ or ‘admission to Ph.D. only’ will not be considered eligible for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF).
