RRB ALP 2026 Eligibility Criteria

RRB ALP 2026: Educational Qualification

To be considered eligible for the RRB ALP post, candidates must possess one of the following academic or technical backgrounds:

• Matriculation/SSLC plus ITI: Candidates should have completed their 10th grade (Matriculation/SSLC) along with an ITI certificate from an institution recognized by NCVT or SCVT. Eligible trades include:
  • Electrician, Electronics Mechanic, and Fitter
  • Armature and Coil Winder, Heat Engine, and Instrument Mechanic
  • Machinist, Mechanic Diesel, and Mechanic Motor Vehicle
  • Millwright Maintenance Mechanic, Mechanic Radio & TV, and Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Mechanic
  • Tractor Mechanic, Turner, and Wireman
• Matriculation/SSLC plus Act Apprenticeship: Alternatively, candidates who have completed their 10th grade and a Course Completed Act Apprenticeship in any of the trades listed above are also eligible.
• Diploma in Engineering: Applicants holding a 3-year Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, or Automobile Engineering are qualified for these roles.
• Engineering Degree: A Degree in any of the Engineering disciplines mentioned above, or a combination of various streams within these engineering branches from a recognized institution, is also an acceptable qualification.

RRB ALP 2026: Age Limit and Category-wise Relaxation

As per the official CEN 01/2026 notification, the age of the applicant is calculated as of 01 July 2026. The age requirement for the Assistant Loco Pilot position is a minimum of 18 years and a maximum of 30 years.

How to Apply for RRB ALP 2026?

The online registration for the Assistant Loco Pilot positions is set to commence on 15 May 2026. Eligible candidates must submit their applications through the official regional portal of the RRB. The application process involves online registration, document uploading, and the payment of the prescribed application fee.

Step-by-Step Guide to the Online Application Process:

Step 1: Access the Official Portal: Start by visiting the dedicated recruitment website at rrbapply.gov.in.

Step 2: Open the Application Link: On the homepage, locate and click the link specifically for the Pay Level-2 post of Assistant Loco Pilot under notification CEN-01/2026 (ALP).

Step 3: Account Creation: On the subsequent page, click the 'Apply' button and select 'Create an Account'.

Step 4: Fill Initial Details: Complete the registration form by entering essential information, including your personal details, Aadhaar verification, and contact info. You will also need to create a strong password using a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters.

Step 5: Log In and Complete the Form: Use your newly registered mobile number or email ID and password to log in. Proceed to fill out the comprehensive application form.

Step 6: Select RRB and Zone: Choose the specific Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) you wish to apply to. During this step, you must also select your preferred posts and zones within that RRB.

Step 7: Enter Technical and Educational Info: Provide your academic and technical qualification details. You will also be required to select your chosen trade for Part B of CBT-2 and indicate your order of preference for the available posts.

Step 8: Document Upload: Upload high-quality scanned images of your photograph and signature. If you are applying under the SC/ST category, you must also upload the relevant certificate as per the specified dimensions.

Step 9: Review and Declaration: Carefully review all entered data in the application preview. Once satisfied with the accuracy of the information, complete the final declaration.

Step 10: Final Submission and Payment: Click on 'Final Submission' to proceed to the payment gateway. The application fee can be settled online via Net Banking, Credit/Debit Cards, or UPI services.

Step 11: Save Confirmation: The system will generate a confirmation page only after a successful transaction. Download and print this page for your personal records and future reference.

Note: During the ALP ONLINE APPLICATION, there will be an option to create an Account. If a candidate has already created an account for CENs notified in 2024/2025, they should use the same account credentials to log in and apply for this vacancy as well. 

Application Fee 

To complete the application process, registration candidates must pay the application fee according to their category. A notable aspect of this process is the partial or full reimbursement provided to candidates who attend the first stage of the examination.

• General, OBC, and EWS Categories: Applicants in these categories must pay an application fee of Rs. 500. Upon appearing for the Computer-Based Test (CBT), a refund of Rs. 400 will be initiated to their account.
• Reserved Categories and Female Applicants: Candidates belonging to SC, ST, EBC, and Transgender categories, as well as all female applicants, are required to pay an application fee of Rs. 250. For these candidates, the complete fee of Rs. 250 is refunded after they appear in the CBT.

Note: The refund is only applicable to candidates who officially sit for the Computer-Based Test; those who remain absent will not be eligible for any reimbursement.

RRB ALP 2026: Revised Selection Process (CBT 1 & CBT 2)

The Railway Recruitment Board has introduced a new RRB ALP selection process from 2026. According to the revised selection process, the final merit list for the selection of ALP will be released based on the marks secured by the candidates in the CBT 2 exam and the CBAT (computer-based aptitude test).  The CBT 1 exam will be qualifying in nature only.  

• CBT Stage 1 (Qualifying): CBT 1 is an objective-type qualifying exam consisting of 75 questions for 75 marks.
• CBT Stage 2: Candidates qualifying CBT 1 will appear for CBT 2, which is divided into Part A and Part B. Part A marks of CBT 2 will be considered for shortlisting, while Part B will be qualifying in nature.
• Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT): Candidates must score a minimum qualifying mark in each test battery. The final ALP merit list will be prepared using CBT 2 Part A and CBAT marks.
• Document Verification (DV): Candidates shortlisted after CBT 2 and CBAT will be called for document verification. Original documents must be produced during DV, otherwise candidature may be cancelled.

RRB ALP Revised Exam Pattern 2026

Candidates who applied for the Railway Recruitment Board Assistant Loco Pilot examination should understand the latest RRB ALP Revised Exam Pattern 2026 before starting their preparation. • CBT 1 is the first stage and is now only the qualifying stage of the selection process.

• A negative marking of 1/3 mark will be applicable for every incorrect answer.

RRB ALP CBT 2 Exam Pattern 2026

Candidates qualifying in CBT 1 will be shortlisted for CBT 2. The second-stage examination is divided into Part A and Part B.

• Part A will contain 100 questions with a duration of 90 minutes.
• Part B will contain 75 questions with a duration of 60 minutes.
• Negative marking of 1/3 mark will also apply in CBT 2.
• Part B will be qualifying in nature and related to the candidate’s trade.

Stage 3 - RRB ALP CBAT Exam Pattern

• Question papers for this exam will be made available in English and Hindi only.
• There are five test battery, candidates need to score certain marks in each test battery to qualify in each test battery separately.
• This stage will be evaluated for a total of 42 marks.
• There shall be no negative marking in this stage.

RRB ALP Exam Syllabus 2026

RRB ALP Admit Card 2026

RRB ALP Admit Card 2026 will be available online at the respective regional RRB websites for each stage of the examination. RRBs typically release admit cards for each stage of the examination four to five days before the scheduled exam date. Candidates must enter their user ID and password to download the RRB ALP admit card.

The RRB ALP Admit Card 2026 can be downloaded from the official regional website by following the steps listed below:

Step 1: Visit the official website and search for RRB ALP Admit Cards 2026.

Step 2: Enter your application ID or username, as well as your password.

Step 3: Once you've submitted your credentials, you'll be able to download your admit card.

RRB ALP Answer Key 2026

Step 2: After clicking the link a new login window will appear requiring candidates to enter their login information.

Step 3: Enter your registration number and date of birth, then click Submit.

Step 4: Your answer key (response sheet) will be displayed on the screen.

Step 5: Download the answer key PDF and keep it for future use.

RRB ALP Result 2026

The Railway Recruitment Board usually releases the RRB ALP Result separately on each regional website once the examination is completed. Each stage of the selection process will have its own set of results.

Step 2: Click on the RRB ALP Result 2026 link available on the home page.

Step 3: A new PDF file will appear on the screen.

RRB ALP Cut-off Marks 2026
