Saurav Ghosal returned from his retirement to win the Octane Sydney Classic 2025 Squash Tournament.  India’s most successful squash player, Saurav Ghosal, announced his retirement from professional squash in April 2024. 

The $6000 prize money Octane Sydney Classic 2025 was part of the Professional Squash Association (PSA) Squash Tour. It was a tournament for the professional men players, and it was held in Sydney, Australia, from 19-23 February 2025.

11th PSA Title for Saurav Ghosal 

The win in the Sydney Classic was the 11th PSA title for Saurav Ghosal. In the final, 38-year-old Saurav Ghosal defeated world No. 142 Abdelrahman Nassar of Egypt 11-2, 11-6, 11-2.

Earlier, Saurav Ghosal defeated Rhys Dowling of Australia 11-9, 5-11, 11-1, 11-2 in the semi-final to qualify for the final.

Saurav Ghosal's Achievements in Squash 

  • In 2003, Saurav Ghosal made his debut as a professional squash player..
  • He became the first Indian player in 2004 to be ranked junior World No. 1 in 2004. 
  • He is the only squash player from India to reach the world’s top 10 ranking in the senior men’s singles.
  • Saurav Ghosal has won the national championship 13 times
  • He has won a total of nine medals at the Asian Games.
  • He won the first-ever squash medal for India,a bronze medal, in the 2006 Doha Asian Games.
  • In 2007, Saurav Ghosal was awarded the Arjuna Award. He is the first squash player to be awarded the Arjuna Award.
