President Draoupadi Murmu inaugurated the 8th India Water Week on 17 September 2024. The biannual four-day event is being held at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi from 17 to 20 September 2024. The Union Jal Shakti minister, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, was also present on the occasion.
The India Water Week is modelled on Stockholm Water Week, which focuses on water management and cooperation issues.
The International Wash Conference 2024 is also being held simultaneously with the India Water Week.
The Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, and Government of India organise India Water Week every two years. This year, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj is the Partner Ministry for the 8th India Water Week and Exhibition.
The 8th India Water Week theme is “Partnerships and Cooperation for Inclusive Water Development and Management”.
The event will bring together global-level decision-makers, politicians, researchers, experts, planners, innovators, students and stakeholders in the field of water resources to discuss issues related to water resources and discuss related to the theme Partnerships and Cooperation for Inclusive Water Development and Management.
The Union Ministry of Jal Shakti organised the first Indian Water Week in 2012. It was organised again in 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2022.
Every year, a particular theme is chosen as the focus area of the India Water Week edition.
The International Wash Conference 2024 is being organised by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Govt. of India, along with the 8th India Water Week.
The International WASH conference will bring together governments, NGOs, the private sector and academia to discuss issues related to the water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) sector.
The conference aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration to ensure the equitable and efficient utilisation of water resources for present and future generations.
