Praksah Magdum has assumed the office of the Managing Director of the National Film Development Corporation (NDFC).
Prior to his appointment as Managing Director, Prakash Magdum served as the Additional Director General of Press Information Bureau (PIB) and Central Bureau of Communication in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
A 1999 batch officer of the Indian Information Service, Praskah Magdum, has a distinguished service record.
Prakash Magdum has also been the Director of the National Film Archive of India, Pune, Maharashtra and the registrar of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune.
National Film Development Corporation (NDFC)
The Government of India established the National Film Development Corporation (NDFC) in 1975 under the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
The NDFC, with its tagline of ‘Cinemas of India’, underlines its role in promoting Indian cinema, especially parallel or art cinema.
Aim and function
- It is a fully integrated film development company capable of scripting, filming, and producing a film.
- Its mandate is to promote excellence in Indian cinema.
- To support and encourage films made in various Indian languages to promote and celebrate the country's cultural diversity.
- It facilitates the co-production of independent films(parallel films)in public-private partnerships.
- It has worked with greats of Indian cinema, such as Satyajit Ray, Shyam Benegal, Govind Nihalani, Mrinal Sen, Aparna Sen, Richard Attenborough, Mira Nair, Adoor Gopalakrishnan, and Ketan Mehta.
- It also promotes Indian cinemas within India and abroad, and is responsible for creating a market for parallel cinema in India and abroad.
- To market Indian films, NDFC organises Film Bazaar India alongside the International Film Festival of India, Goa.
- NFDC also offers domestic and foreign clients its production facilities and animation services.
