Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the ICA Global Cooperative Conference 2024 on 25 November 2024 in New Delhi. The Prime Minister also kickstarted the year-long United Nations International Year of Cooperatives 2025 celebration.
India is hosting the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) Global Conference for the first time in New Delhi from 25 to 30 November 2024.
The ICA is the apex body of cooperatives around the world, and it was founded in 1895. The ICA Global Conference is the annual conference of the ICA where all the members of the ICA, people associated with cooperative movements, academicians, etc, participates
The theme of the ICA Global Cooperative Conference 2024 is "Cooperatives Build Prosperity for All."
Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the ICA Global Conference in the presence of the Union Minister for Cooperation, Amit Shah.
Around 3000 delegates from over 100 countries are attending the Conference. Among the notable foreign dignitaries present were Dasho Tshering Tobgay, the Prime Minister of Bhutan, and Manoa Kamikamica, the Deputy Prime Minister of Fiji.
The ICA Global Conference is being organised by the International Cooperative Alliance and hosted by the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO). It is supported by the Union Ministry for Cooperatives and 18 other Indian cooperatives, such as AMUL and Krishak Bharati Cooperative Limited (KRIBHCO).
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also officially launched the United Nations International Year of Cooperatives 2025. A year-long celebration of cooperatives' impact on society, reflecting on achievements and actions to strengthen the cooperative movement and improve everyone's lives, will be held across the globe.
This is the second United Nations International Year of Cooperatives. The United Nations General Assembly declared 2012 as the year of the International Year of Cooperatives.
The 2024 United Nations International Year of Cooperatives 2025 theme is "Cooperatives Build a Better World."
