Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the 2nd International Conference on Green Hydrogen on 11 September 2024.  Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy,  Pralhad Venkatesh Joshi, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh  Puri, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India Prof. Ajay K. Sood and other distinguished dignitaries were present on the occasion.

The three day 2nd International Conference on Green Hydrogen is being held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi from 11-13 September 2024. 

Aim of the 2nd International Conference on Green Hydrogen 

The Conference aims  to establish India as a leader in the global green hydrogen ecosystem.

The three day conference  will discuss the recent advances in  technologies across the entire Green Hydrogen value chain. The forum will provide a platform to the stakeholder of the Green Hydrogen value chain  to discuss strategic investments and partnerships needed to accelerate the adoption of green hydrogen technologies in the country.

Who Organised the 2nd International Conference on Green Hydrogen? 

The 2nd International Conference on Green Hydrogen was organised by the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India. The Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the Department of Science and Technology, and the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research are the associate partners.

The Gujarat government is the state partner of the conference. 

The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) is the implementation partner, EY is the knowledge partner and FICCI is the industry partner.

About Green Hydrogen & National Green Hydrogen Mission

Green hydrogen is produced by the breaking of water into hydrogen and oxygen by passing  electricity.The electricity produced by the renewable energy sources like sun,wind,hydel powers etc are used for this purpose.

The hydrogen is used to produce fuel cells which power automobiles etc. The hydrogen powered automobiles produce almost negligible pollution as compared to the fossil fuel(petrol,diesel,natural gas) powered automobiles.

  • The Government of India has launched the National Green Hydrogen Mission on 4 January 2023 to encourage the production of Green Hydrogen production in the country.
  • The Mission aims to develop 5 Million Metric Tonne per year of Green Hydrogen production capacity by 2030.
  • The duration of the Mission is from 2023-24 to 2029-2030 and the total outlay on the mission is Rs 19,744 crores.
