The 10th edition of the ICC Women's T20 Cricket World Cup began on June 12, 2026. In the tournament's opening match, hosts England faced Sri Lanka at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
Hosts England made a brilliant start to the tournament by defeating Sri Lanka by 87 runs in this opening match.
England and Wales are co-hosting this month-long tournament, with the final scheduled to be played at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground on July 5, 2026.
The Indian women's team will begin its campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on June 14.
Led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian women's team will aim to make history as they strive to win their maiden T20 World Cup title.
For the first time in the tournament's history, 12 teams will participate, and 33 matches will be played across seven venues, making it the biggest ICC Women's T20 World Cup to date.
Following their success in the ODI format last year, the Indian women's cricket team is now eyeing another major trophy at the 2026 T20 World Cup. Harmanpreet Kaur will captain the Indian T20 team, with Smriti Mandhana serving as vice-captain.
For this 10th edition of the biennial tournament, a total of 12 teams—two more than the previous edition—have been divided into two groups of six teams each.
India has been placed in Group 1 alongside Pakistan, Australia, South Africa, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands.
Both semi-finals and the final will be played in London; the semi-finals will take place at 'The Oval', while the final match will be held at the iconic 'Lord's Cricket Ground'.
Since its inception in 2009, nine editions of the Women's T20 World Cup have been held so far. Australia has won the T20 World Cup six times, while New Zealand, England, and the West Indies are also among the winners of the Women's T20 World Cup.
The Indian women's cricket team, New Zealand, and South Africa have finished as runners-up in various editions.
