India has won the Asia Cup Hockey title for the fourth time. India won the 12th edition of the Men’s Asia Cup Hockey 2025 by defeating South Korea 4-1. With this, the team led by Harmanpreet Singh secured direct qualification to the FIH World Cup.
- Host India, on 07 September 2025, defeated defending champion South Korea 4-1 in the final of the Asia Cup Hockey at Rajgir Sports Complex Stadium in Bihar and secured direct qualification to the FIH World Cup to be held next year, which will be jointly hosted by Belgium and the Netherlands from 14 to 30 August.
- By winning four titles, the Indian hockey team has become the second most successful team in the continental championship after five-time champion South Korea.
- Dilpreet Singh (28th and 45th minute) scored twice, while Sukhjeet Singh (1st minute) and Amit Rohidas (50th minute) scored the other two goals for India in the final match.
- South Korea, which was defending its title won in 2022, scored its only goal through Dan Son (51st minute).
- Earlier, Malaysia defeated China 4-3 in the third-place playoff match, while Japan defeated Bangladesh 6-1 to secure fifth place.
India’s performance
- India maintained its clean slate in the tournament with five wins and one draw. The team led by Harmanpreet Singh won all three of its pool matches. In the Super 4, after playing a 2-2 draw against South Korea, they went on to defeat Malaysia and China 4-1 and 7-0 respectively.
- This is India’s fourth Asia Cup title. Earlier, it had won this tournament in 2003, 2007, and 2017. South Korea has won this tournament five times – in 1994, 1999, 2009, 2013, and 2022.
- India last won the title in 2017 in Dhaka, and before that, it had achieved success in this continental tournament in 2003 (Kuala Lumpur) and 2007 (Chennai).
- Currently ranked ninth in the world, India entered this tournament after a disappointing performance in the European leg of the FIH Hockey Pro League.
Asia Cup Hockey 2025
- The Men’s Asia Cup Hockey 2025 was the 12th edition of the Men’s Asia Cup Hockey, a quadrennial international men’s field hockey championship of Asia organized by the Asian Hockey Federation.
- It was held from 29 August to 7 September 2025 at the Hockey Stadium of Bihar Sports University, Rajgir Sports Complex, India.
- Pakistan withdrew from the tournament citing security concerns and financial constraints and was replaced by Bangladesh. Oman also withdrew due to financial problems and was replaced by Kazakhstan.
