President Confers Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 Awards: Full Winners List

President Droupadi Murmu conferred the 9th edition of the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 Awards to the winners at a function in New Delhi on 17th July 2025. 

The function was organised by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, which instituted the  Swachh Survekshan award in 2016.

Indore of Madhya Pradesh, for the 8th consecutive year, remained the cleanest city in India, followed by Surat (Gujarat) and Navi Mumbai (Maharashtra).

Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, gave the award for Best Ganga Town to Prayagraj. At the same time, Secunderabad Cantonment was honoured as the Best Cantonment Board for its exemplary sanitation efforts.

Feature of the 9th Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 

The Swachh Survekshan was launched by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs in 2016 to encourage large-scale participation from citizens of a city to make their city a better place to live. 

The cities are ranked on the basis of cleanliness and waste management 

Features of the 9th edition 

• More than 4900 cities under the Swachh Bharat Mission Urban (SBM-U) have been surveyed.
• Theme - Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
• A new category of the  Super Swachh League has been introduced
• A separate matrix of indicators for evaluating cities based on population has been introduced.
• Special focus on tourists and high footfall places
• Introduction of school-level assessment
• Simplified indicators in 10 sections
• Penalty introduced for inaccurate data and claims
• New indicators for Project grounding and CTUs (Cleanliness Target Units) transformation were introduced.
