Amit Shah Presents President's Police Colour Award to Goa Police

Union Home Minister Amit Shah presented the prestigious President's Police Colour to the Goa Police on 7 September 2026, at the Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium in Taleigao, Goa. With this honour, Goa became only the fifth state police force in the country to receive this rare distinction, recognising more than 80 years of service, discipline and courage.

What is the President's Police Colour Award?

The President's Police Colour is one of the highest honours a state police force can earn in India. Also known as Rashtrapati Ka Nishan. It's awarded only when a force completes at least 25 years of distinguished service and shows consistent excellence in maintaining law and order.

During the Panaji ceremony, HM Shah credited the Goa Police with guarding the state's coastline, protecting tourists, and holding the line on internal security since Goa became a state. He also remembered officers who died on duty Balaram Shinde, Abhishek Sher, Shailesh Gaonkar and Vishwas B. Deykar calling their sacrifice central to this achievement.

A major highlight was the rollout of an AI-based call agent for the national cybercrime helpline 1930. It will initially handle complaints in Konkani, Marathi and Hindi, later expanding to every language listed in the Eighth Schedule, a big help given Goa's heavy tourist footfall.

Amit Shah noted that Goa ranks second nationally in rolling out the three new criminal codes, with 93.38% progress. Its conviction rate jumped a striking 30 percentage points in just one year.

Emergency response under the 112 helpline dropped from 18 to 8 minutes, benefiting nearly 20,000 callers, with plans to push it below six minutes soon.

HM Amit Shah also announced the Home Ministry's 2026-29 roadmap to make Indian villages and cities narcotics-free, urging Goa Police to lead this anti-drug drive alongside preparing for the 2029 International Police Sports Championship.
