International Day Of Peace 2023 Observed Globally

Every year, 21 September is observed as the International Day of Peace in the world. The United Nations General Assembly, in a resolution passed in 2001, called for this day to “be observed as a day of global ceasefire and non-violence, an invitation to all nations and people to honour a cessation of hostilities for the duration of the Day;”

Background to the International Day of Peace 

The United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution in 1981 to observe the third Tuesday of September month as the International Day of Peace. 

Later, on 7 September 2001, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution to observe 21 September as the International Day of Peace.

21 September as International Day of Peace was first observed in 2001.

Theme of the International Day of Peace 2023

The theme of the International Day of Peace is Actions for Peace: Our Ambition for the #GlobalGoals. 

According to the United Nations, the theme recognises our individual and collective responsibility to foster Peace. Fostering Peace contributes to the realisation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals will create a culture of Peace for all.
