The Indian athletes continued their medal-winning spree in the 21st U-20 Asian Athletics Championship 2024, with Harshit Kumar winning gold in the Hammer throw event. At the end of the third day of the event, the Indian athletes won five medals-one gold, two silver and two bronze medals. The total number of Indian medals won by Indian athletes stands at 18.
Ritik won India's first medal in the championships by winning a silver medal in the men’s discus throw event.
Harshit Kumar secured a gold medal for India in the hammer throw event with a throw of 66.7 meters. Prateek won a bronze medal in the same event with a throw of 65.97 meters.
Laxita Sandilea who won the gold medal at last year's event in Yecheon, had to settle for a silver medal in the 800-metre race with 2 minutes 07.10 seconds.
The mixed relay team of P. Abiram, Kanista Teena, Navpreet Singh, and Sandramol Sabu won the silver medal with a time of 3 minutes 24.86 seconds.
Shreeya Rajesh won a bronze medal in the women's 400m hurdles with a time of 59.20 seconds.

The 21st Asian U20 Athletics Championship is being organised by the Asian Athletics Association in association with the host UAE Athletics Federation in Dubai from 24 April- 27 April 2024.
Men's and women’s athletes under the age of 20 participate in the event.
In the 21st edition of the championship, 60 Indian athletes, including 31 men and 29 women, are participating.
The Dubai Asian U20 Athletics Championships is a qualifying event for the 2024 World U20 Athletics Championships. Lima, the capital of Peru, will host the 2024 World U20 Athletics Championships from 27 to 31 August 2024.
In the 20th Asian U20 Athletics Championships held in Yecheon, South Korea, last year, India won 19 medals. India stood third on the medal table behind Japan and China.
Asian Athletics Association is the apex body of men’s and women’s athletics in Asia. It is affiliated with World Athletics, the world governing body of Athletics.
