 Indian Coast Guard released a Notification of the Assistant Commandant for the batch of 02/2024. A total of 46 posts of General Duty, Technical (Engineering and Electrical/Electronics) and Law for the Indian Coast Guard, an armed force of the union, have been announced.

Indian Coast Guard Assistant Commandant Overview 2023

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) is a defence force that preserves and enforces maritime law in India. Eligible applicants are hired as Assistant Commandants by the ICG for a variety of positions such as General Duty, Technical, Legal Advisor, Pilots, and so on.  These positions are open to both male and female candidates.

As part of the selection process, candidates will undergo a Screening Test (CGCAT), a Preliminary Selection Board, a Final Selection Board, a Medical Examination, and an Induction. Indian Coast Guard Assistant Commandant Educational Qualification 

To apply for the ICGAC exam, one must meet the following minimal educational requirements set by the conducting body.

  • Bachelor’s Degree with minimum 60% aggregate marks
  • Mathematics and Physics as subjects up to Intermediate or class XII of the 10+2+3 education model, or equivalent, with a minimum aggregate mark of 55% in Mathematics and Physics. Candidates who have finished their diploma following graduation (with an aggregate of 55% in physics and math) are also eligible.

Technical (Mechanical)

  • Engineering degree in Naval Architecture or Mechanical or Marine or Automotive or Mechatronics or Industrial and Production or Metallurgy or Design or Aeronautical or Aerospace with a minimum 60% aggregate marks.

OR

Equivalent qualification in any of the aforementioned disciplines accepted as exempt from section "A" and "B" and its associate membership examination (AMIE) by the Institutes of Engineers (India). 

  •  Mathematics and Physics as subject upto intermediate or class XII of 10+2+3 scheme of education or equivalent with minimum 55% aggregate marks in Mathematics and Physics. The candidates who have completed graduation after diploma (with an aggregate of 55% marks in diploma with physics and mathematics).

Technical (Electrical/ Electronics)

  • Engineering degree in Electrical or Electronics or Telecommunication or Instrumentation or Instrumentation and Control or Electronics and Communication or Power Engineering or Power Electronics with minimum 60% aggregate marks.

OR

Equivalent qualification in any of the aforementioned disciplines accepted as exempt from section "A" and "B" and its associate membership examination (AMIE) by the Institutes of Engineers (India).

Indian Coast Guard Assistant Commandant 2023 Apply Online

Indian Coast Guard Assistant Commandant Recruitment applications must be submitted online via the official website of ICG @joinindiancoastguard.cdac.in. The actions to take when applying for the post are outlined below.

Step 1: Visit the Indian Coast Guard website.

Step 2: Click the CGCAT 02/2024 tab on the homepage.

Step 3: Register with your personal information to create an account; if already registered login to apply. 

Step 4: Now, proceed to fill in your Application Form.

Step 5: Carefully fill out all of the required personal and educational information.

Step 6: Check that you have completed all of the star(*) marked fields.

Step 7: Upload your scanned current photograph and signature in the format and size specified.

Step 8: Pay the applicable examination fee.

Step 9: Submit the application form and take a printout of the final submission for future reference.

Examination Fee

All candidates (excluding SC/ST candidates, who are exempt from paying the fee) must pay a fee of Rs.250/- online by net banking or Visa/Master/Maestro/RuPay/Credit/Debit Card/UPI. 

Indian Coast Guard Assistant Commandant Selection Process

The selection of Assistant Commandants is based on an all-India order of merit based on candidates' performance in five phases of examination and the number of vacancies available. Clearing all stages is required for recruitment in ICG. The following are the specifics of the several stages of examination:

  • Stage-I: Screening Test (CGCAT)

The stage 1 of the recruitment process will be a written test. All candidates for all branches (except law candidates) shall appear in this computer-based online screening test known as CGCAT. 

  • Stage-II: Preliminarily Selection Board (PSB)

This stage is qualifying in nature and includes the Computerised Cognitive Battery Test (CCBT) and Picture Perception & Discussion (PP&DT)).

  • Stage-III: Final Selection Board (FSB)

The FSB is held at the Coast Guard Selection Board (CGSB) in Noida and lasts five days. Candidates must complete a Psychological Test, a Group Task, and an Interview (Personality Test).

  • Stage-IV: Medical Examination

Candidates who pass Stage III must undergo a medical examination process at Base Hospital in New Delhi. 

  • Stage-V: Induction

Candidates who pass Stage IV and are on the All India Merit List for the vacant openings will be provisionally selected for training and will be asked to report to INA Ezhimala for the Naval Orientation Course (NOC).

Note:

Law candidates will take stage II (PSB) directly, and their merit list will be generated solely based on their performance in stage III (FSB).

b. PSB

As previously stated, candidates for PSB will be tested using the Computerised Cognitive Battery Test (CCBT) and the Picture Perception and Discussion Test (PP&DT). 

  • The CCBT will be conducted entirely in English and will be objective in nature.
  • Candidates are expected to speak and debate in English during PP&DT. They are, however, free to talk in Hindi if they so desire.

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) publishes the ICG AC admit card on its official website. By inputting their credentials, candidates can get their admission card from the website. To obtain your admission card, simply follow the instructions outlined below.

  • Navigate to joinindiancoastguard.cdac.in.
  • Navigate to the section - Join the ICG as an Officer (CGCAT).
  • Now, under the News/Announcement area, click on the download admit card link for CGCAT 02/2024.
  • Login with your Roll Number/Registration ID and Password.
  • The admit card will be displayed on your device.

Indian Coast Guard Assistant Commandant Salary 2023

The basic pay for an Indian Coast Guard Assistant Commandant is 10, the pay band is 3, and the grade pay is ₹5400. The starting basic pay of the CG AC will be ₹56,100  as per the 7th Pay Commission.
