MoTA Launches ‘Adi Sanskriti’- World’s First Digital Tribal Platform

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs has launched the digital platform "Adi Sanskriti", the world’s first digital university for tribal artifacts and to provide global access to products created by tribal artisans.

• The Ministry of Tribal Affairs launched the beta version of "Adi Sanskriti". Adi Sanskriti is considered the world’s first digital learning platform for tribal artifacts.
• Adi Sanskriti is being seen as the world’s first digital university for the preservation and promotion of the culture and traditional knowledge of tribal communities and as an online marketplace for global access to products created by tribal artisans.
• Speaking on the occasion, the Hon’ble Minister of State for Tribal Affairs, Shri Durgadas Uikey, highlighted the ministry’s continuous efforts for the upliftment of Scheduled Tribes and the preservation of their heritage.

Adi Vani Initiative

• The launch of this platform follows the Adi Vani initiative, which will include a mobile application and a website that will help in translation into tribal languages. So far, the Adi Vani app is capable of translating Gondi, Bhili, Santhali and Mundari, although officials have said that more languages will be added soon.

This platform includes three major components:

• Adi University (Digital Tribal Art Academy): Currently offering 45 intensive courses on tribal dance, painting, craft, music and folklore.
• Adi Sampada (Socio-Cultural Repository): A collection of more than 5,000 curated documents covering five themes: painting, dance, attire and textiles, artifacts and livelihood.
• Adi Haat (Online Marketplace): Currently linked to TRIFED, it will be developed as a dedicated online marketplace for tribal artisans, enabling sustainable livelihood and direct access to consumers.

Creation of Adi Sanskriti

• Adi Sanskriti is being developed in close partnership with State Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs), ensuring grassroots participation, authenticity and coordination in its development.
• In its first phase, the Tribal Art Institutes (TRIs) of Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Odisha, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh have contributed to the documentation, content compilation and digital mapping of tribal artifacts. This collective effort has laid the foundation of a platform that reflects the diversity and richness of India’s tribal heritage.
• The ministry has confirmed that Adi Sanskriti will be expanded in phases with more courses, collections and market integration. The long-term vision is to develop this platform as a Tribal Digital University, which will provide certification, advanced research opportunities and transformative learning pathways.
