Ambabai Temple Development Project, Maharashtra. Launch Date and Key Details

Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the Shri Ambabai Temple Development Project in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, on June 23, 2026. The project aims to preserve the ancient, 1,000-year-old Hemadpanthi-style architecture. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was also present alongside other senior dignitaries.

What Will the Ambabai Temple Development Project Include? 

The development covers both modern infrastructure and careful heritage conservation. Here is what is being built and restored:

1. The total cost of this project is over Rs 1,445 crore, with some estimates placing the full development figure at around Rs 1,500 crore.
2. The project runs on the government's guiding idea of "Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi" — meaning development and heritage must always go together.
3. A new Pradakshina Marg for a smoother and more organised circumambulation experience for devotees
4. A Darshan Mandap to manage large crowds during peak pilgrimage seasons
5. An Annachhatra to provide free meals for pilgrims visiting the temple
6. A Multipurpose Hall for community and religious gatherings
7. Heritage Galleries showcasing the temple's history and cultural significance
8. A Light-and-Sound Show bringing the temple's story to life for visitors
9. AI-based security systems and LED lighting across the complex
10. Parking facilities and first-aid centres for the safety and convenience of devotees
11. Conservation of 41 Parivar Devata Mandirs, the smaller temples within the complex, in consultation with archaeological authorities.
