The GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums) Division of the Union Ministry of Culture has organised a three-day (1-3 August 2024) 'State Museum Conclave on the upcoming Yuga Yugeen Bharat Museum' in New DelhiThe conclave will discuss ways and means by which the state governments and other stakeholders can contribute to the central government’s project to build the world’s largest museum -Yuga Yugeen Bharat Museum in New Delhi. 

Who inaugurated the State Museum Conclave?

The 'State Museum Conclave on the upcoming Yuga Yugeen Bharat Museum' was inaugurated by the Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on 1 August 2024.

It was attended by the Resident Commissioners of the State government in Delhi, Directors of Museums, Superintendents, Curators, Professors and Researchers from across the country.

What is the Aim of the State Museum Conclave?

The conclave is part of a series of exercises undertaken by the Union Ministry of Culture to get input from stakeholders on building the world's largest Museum, Yuga Yugeen Bharat Museum, in New Delhi using best global practices. 

This particular conclave aims to seek inputs from the state government on the historical and cultural artefacts wealth they possess and which can be displayed in the upcoming museum.

The conclave will also explore ways for a state to collaborate in establishing the proposed Yuga Yugeen Bharat Museum.

About the Yuga Yugeen Bharat Museum

  • As part of the Central Vista Redevelopment project, the central government will establish the Yuga Yugeen Bharat Museum in the North and South Block area, located near Raisina Hill in New Delhi.
  • The plan is to shift the National Museum in New Delhi to the North and South Block and develop it as Yuga Yugeen Bharat Museum.
  • At present, the North and South Blocks host the offices of the various ministries of the Indian government. 
  • The proposed museum spread over 1,54,000 sqm, will be the largest museum in the world. 
  • The Yuga Yugeen Bharat Museum is being developed in partnership with France.

Central Vista Project 

  • The central government launched the Central Vista Project in 2019 to redevelop the area in New Delhi, where important central government offices are situated.
  • The Rs 20,000 crore project includes redeveloping the 3.2-kilometer stretch of the Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate, including the Parliament House and Central Secretariat, relocating the National Museum to North Block and South Block, etc. 
  • It includes constructing new residential houses for the Prime Minister and the Vice President of India.
  • The government plans to complete all the projects planned under the Central Vista project in a phased and sequential manner by 2026.
