Professors Narayan Pradhan and Professor Neelesh B Mehta were awarded the GD Birla Award for Scientific Research for their contributions in material sciences and wireless communication respectively. The awards were presented by Union Civil Aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia in a function held in New Delhi on 2 August 2023.

Professor Narayan Pradhan from the Indian Association for the Cultivation Sciences, Jadavpur ,West Bengal received the GD Birla Award for Scientific Research for 2021. He has been honoured for his work on creating next generation photovoltaic cells to generate more solar energy.

Professor Neelesh B Mehta from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore received the prestigious GD Birla Award for Scientific Research for 2022. Professor Mehta has been honoured for making significant contributions to the design, modelling, analysis, and optimisation of current and next-generation wireless communication systems.
GD Birla Award for Scientific Research
The GD Birla Award for Scientific Research was instituted by KK Birla Foundation in 1991.
It is given to Indian scientists below the age of 50, living and working in India.
They are honoured for their research work done in the field of any branch of science and technology including medical science, basic as well as applied sciences.
The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 2.5 Lakh and a citation.
