The Vice President of the United States, James David Vance or JD Vance, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on 21 April 2025. Vice President JD Vance is on an official visit to India from April 21 to 24, 2025. He arrived in India after visiting Italy and the Vatican City. He was the last world leader to meet Pope Francis, who died in the Vatican on 21 April 2025.
Vice President JD Vance is accompanied by his wife, Usha Vance, who is of Indian origin, and their three children: Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel.
This is JD Vance's first visit to India since he became the Vice President of the United States of America on January 20 (21 January in India), 2025.
JD Vance Schedule in India
During his visit to India, JD Vance will visit New Delhi, Jaipur in Rajasthan, and Agra in Uttar Pradesh.
JD Vance visited India after concluding his official trip to Italy and the Vatican City.
He was received at the Palam Air Force Station in New Delhi by the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw.
He met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and held talks on energy, defence, trade, strategic technologies, and regional and global issues.
The visit of JD Vance comes in the background of the US President imposing a reciprocal tariff of 26% on Indian goods exported to the United States.
Although Donald Trump has postponed it for 90 days, starting April 9, 2025.
During PM Modi's visit to the US in February 2025, India and the US agreed to double bilateral trade to $500 billion by 2030.
They also agreed to start negotiations for a multi-sector Bilateral Trade Agreement.
Later, JD Vance and his family visited the Akshardham Temple in New Delhi.
