His fortune jumped about 10.5%, adding roughly $8.5 billion, according to Forbes’ Real-Time Billionaires list. He now ranks No. 23 in the world, while Zhang Yiming is at No. 25 with about $84 billion.

Why did Reliance shares surge?

Reliance Industries stock rose nearly 12% on Monday, 2 November, adding over $19 billion to the company’s market value. There were two main reasons:

• Strong results: The company reported quarterly earnings of ₹255.5 billion (about $2.7 billion), well above analysts’ estimate of $2.3 billion.
• Analyst upgrade: An Avendus Spark analyst upgraded the stock from “reduce” to “add”. As a result, Reliance has no hold or sell recommendation for the first time since 2017.
