PM Modi inaugurates WTSA 2024 and 8th India Mobile Congress 2024

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) - World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA) 2024 at New Delhi on 15 October 2024.
The Prime Minister also inaugurated the 8th edition of the India Mobile Congress 2024, which is being held along with the WTSA 2024 in New Delhi.
During the inaugural address of the Prime Minister, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Minister for Communication, Chandrasekhar Pemmasani, Union Minister of State for Communication, Ms Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary General of ITU, and other dignitaries were present.
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) - World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA) 2024 and the Global Standards Symposium (GSS 2024) is being held in New Delhi from 14-24 October 2024.
ITU plays a major role in providing inputs and formulation of polices related to the Information and Communications Technologies (ICT)in the world. The work of the ITU in this regard has been divided into three sectors, the Radiocommunication Sector, the Telecommunication Standardization Sector, and the Telecommunication Development Sector.
The Indian Mobile Congress is Asia’s largest digital technology forum, which brings together the industry, government, academia, and others to discuss, deliberate, demonstrate, and display the latest trends in Telecom, Media, and Technology (TMT)and ICT.
At the 8th Indian Mobile Congress, participants from 120 countries will showcase the latest technology and discuss future trends in mobile telecommunications. Over 400 exhibitors and around 900 startups will also participate in the Congress.
The 8th Indian Mobile Congress has been organised by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), the Union Ministry of Communication and the Cellular Operator Association of India (COAI).
It is being held in New Delhi from 15-18 October 2024.
The first Indian Mobile Congress was held in 2017, and since then, it has been held annually.
‘Future is Now’ is the theme of the 8th India Mobile Congress.
The International Telecommunication Union was set up in 1865.
In 1948, it was made a specialised agency of the United Nations for information and communication technologies (ICTs)
