PM Modi inaugurates WTSA 2024 and 8th India Mobile Congress 2024

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) - World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA) 2024 at New Delhi on 15 October 2024. 

The Prime Minister also inaugurated the 8th edition of the India Mobile Congress 2024, which is being held along with the WTSA 2024 in New Delhi.

During the inaugural address of the Prime Minister, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Minister for Communication, Chandrasekhar  Pemmasani, Union Minister of State for Communication, Ms Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary General of  ITU, and other dignitaries were present.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) - World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA) 2024 and the Global Standards Symposium (GSS 2024) is being held in New Delhi from 14-24 October 2024.

About the ITU- WTSA 2024

ITU plays a major role in providing inputs and formulation of polices related to the Information and Communications Technologies (ICT)in the world. The work of the ITU in this regard has been divided into three sectors, the Radiocommunication Sector, the Telecommunication Standardization Sector, and the Telecommunication Development Sector.

• The Telecommunication Standardization Sector studies the technical, operating, and tariff questions related to the telecommunications sector and adopts recommendations to standardize telecommunications.
• The ITU-WTSA is held after every four years.
• For the first time the ITU-WTSA is being held in India and the Asia -Pacific region.
• Around 3,000 industry leaders, policy-makers and experts from over 190 countries, representing telecom, digital, and Information and Communications technology (ICT) sectors, are participating in the WTSA.
• The ITU-WTSA provides a platform for countries to discuss and decide the future of standards for next-generation critical technologies, such as 6th-generation technology, artificial intelligence(AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, cybersecurity, etc.

About the Indian Mobile Congress 

The Indian Mobile Congress is Asia’s largest digital technology forum, which brings together the industry, government, academia, and others to discuss, deliberate, demonstrate, and display the latest trends in Telecom, Media, and Technology (TMT)and ICT. 

At the 8th Indian Mobile Congress, participants from 120 countries will showcase the latest technology and discuss future trends in mobile telecommunications. Over 400 exhibitors and around 900 startups will also participate in the Congress. 

Organiser of the 8th Indian Mobile Congress 

The 8th Indian Mobile Congress has been organised by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), the Union Ministry of Communication and the Cellular Operator Association of India (COAI).

It is being held in New Delhi from 15-18 October 2024.

The first Indian Mobile Congress was held in 2017, and since then, it has been held annually.

Theme of the 8th India Mobile Congress 

‘Future is Now’ is the theme of the 8th India Mobile Congress.
