India re elected President of International Solar Alliance for 2024- 26

India has been re-elected as the President of the International Solar Alliance for another two-year term from 2024 to 2026. The Office bearers for 2024-26 were elected at the Seventh annual session of the International Solar Alliance Assembly, held in New Delhi from 3-6 November 2024.
India was re-elected unopposed as the President of the International Solar Alliance for a fresh two-year term. France was elected as the Co-President, defeating Grenada.
The International Solar Alliance has been divided into four geographical regions: Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe & Others, and Latin America and the Caribbean.
Two Vice Presidents represent these regional groups, and the newly elected Vice-Presidents for 2024-26 are as follows;
At the seventh annual session of the International Solar Alliance, Ashish Khanna of India was chosen as the third Director General for a four-year term. He will succeed another Indian, Dr Ajay Mathur.
The Director General is the head of the International Solar Alliance's Secretariat. The Director General plays a crucial role in supporting the Assembly in advancing the International Solar Alliance's mandate to promote the usage of solar energy around the world.
The International Solar Alliance Assembly is the apex decision-making body of the Alliance, which sets the strategic direction of the organisation. It is a ministerial-level meeting held every year, and all the member countries of the ISA participate in the Assembly.
This year's seventh meeting of the ISA Assembly was held in New Delhi. Representatives of 103 member countries and 17 signatory countries participated in the seventh session. Twenty-nine countries had sent their ministers to participate in the seventh session of the Assembly.
The Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Prahlad Joshi, inaugurated the Seventh Session of the International Solar Alliance Assembly on 4 November 2024.
The International Solar Alliance is a joint effort of India and France. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Francoise Hollande mooted it during their meeting in Paris 2015.
The International Solar Alliance was established in 2017, and the first founding conference was held in New Delhi on 11 March 2018.
The International Solar Alliance is an intergovernmental organisation that seeks to reduce the world's dependence on fossil fuels and promote the use of solar energy.
Headquarters: Gurugram, Haryana
Members - 103 countries. Syria was the 103rd country to ratify the International Alliance.
