The two-day ‘Global IndiaAI Summit, organised by the government of India, successfully concluded at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The ‘Global IndiaAI Summit, held on 3 and 4th July 2024, was attended by over 2,000 global artificial intelligence (AI) experts, Policy makers, Artificial Intelligence (AI) practitioners, Industry/Startups, and Academia.
Along with the Global IndiaAI Summit, India also organised the 6th Global Partnership in Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) Ministerial Council meeting on 3 July 2024 in a hybrid mode.
As the lead chair of the GPAI for 2024, India organised the 6th GPAI Ministerial Council meeting.
Artificial intelligence refers to technology that enables systems or machines to simulate human intelligence and perform tasks such as reasoning, making decisions, or solving problems.
The Global INDIAai Summit 2024 was organised by the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
The 6th GPAI Ministerial Council Meeting was also organised by the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
Jitin Prasada, the Union Minister of State Electronics and Information Technology and Commerce & Industry, chaired the GPAI meeting.
India is the lead elected Chair of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) for 2024. while Serbia is the chairman of the 2025 GPAI.
The focus of the Global INDIAai Summit 2024 summit was on advancing AI development in areas like Compute Capacity, Foundational Models, Datasets, Application Development, Future Skills, Startup Financing, and Safe AI,
These are also the seven key pillars of India’s government, IndiaAiMission.
The IndiaAiMission was approved by the Union Cabinet in March 2024 with an outlay of USD 1.25 Billion.
The Global Partnership in Artificial Intelligence was launched on 15 June 2020 with 15 countries, including India, as its founding member.
The GPAI aims to promote international cooperation on artificial technology by providing a platform for stakeholders, including government, experts, industry, academia, and other international bodies.
The GPAI was founded with the aim of providing a mechanism for sharing research in Ai around the world. It aims to increase international cooperation to reduce duplication of work in AI and act as a global reference point for specific AI issues.
At present, the GPAI has 29 member countries. Australia, Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, the Republic of Korea (South Korea), Senegal, Singapore, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Turkiye, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union (EU).
Secretariat of the GPAI: The GPAI is hosted by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) at its secretariat in Paris, France.
