AIIA Hosts 3rd National Shalyacon 2025 on Occasion of Sushruta Jayanti

The Department of Shalya Tantra (Surgery) at the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, in partnership with the National Sushruta Association, organised a three-day national seminar, Shalyacon 2025, from July 13 to 15, 2025, in New Delhi, on the occasion of Sushruta Jayanti.

The Sushruta Jayanti is organised every year on 15th July to commemorate the Father of Surgery (Shalya Tantra) - Sushruta.

What is Shalyacon?

The Shalyacon is a conference for Ayurvedic surgeons, attended by both Indian and foreign practitioners of Ayurveda.

The first Shalyacon was organised in 2023, and it has been held every year since then.

During Shalyacon, live surgical demonstrations are held on July 13th and 14th to demonstrate the application of surgery in Ayurveda. 

The National Sushruta Association also holds its Annual Conference, along with Shalyacon.

Thus, during the 3rd Shalycon 2025, the 25th Annual Conference of the National Sushruta Association was also held.

Who inaugurated the 3rd National Shalyacon 2025?

The 3rd National Shalyacon was inaugurated by Prataprao Ganpatrao Jadhav, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Government of India.

During the inaugural session, noted Ayurveda expert and Secretary of the Ministry of Ayush, Padma Shri Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, President of the National Sushruta Association, Padma Shri Professor Manoranjan Sahu, and other dignitaries were also present.

Around 500 scholars, Ayurvedic experts, surgeons, researchers, from India ,Nepal and Sri Lanka participated in the Shalyacon.

About Sushruta

Sushruta was born in the 6th century BCE in Kashi (Varanasi) and was a disciple of Dievodasa from the Gurukul of Dhanwantri. Dhanwantri is the revered Lord Deity of Ayurveda.

Sushruta was considered a pioneer in the field of surgery in ancient Indian medicine, also known as Ayurveda.

His seminal work on surgery (Shalya Tantra), anatomy, reconstructive surgical treatment, obstetrics and gynaecology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, traumatology, and pharmacology is found in ancient Indian texts,” Sushruta Samhita"

About National Sushruta Association

It was founded in 1997 as a non-commercial, non-profit association of Ayurveda Surgeons.

It aims to encourage research and development in the Shalya Tantra and other means of treatment of Ayurveda.
