India Defeated South Africa In The Shortest Test Match Ever

In Cape Town, India and South Africa Played the shortest-ever cricket test match of 107 overs in 147 years of history.

The second Test match between India and South Africa in Cape Town concluded in just 107 overs (642 balls), making it the shortest Test match in cricket history. 

• India managed to win the Newlands Test by seven wickets, drawing the series 1-1. However, in the process, they broke their earlier record of 842 balls against England in 2021. 
• South Africa batted twice on the same day. The match saw 23 wickets fall on the first day, with an additional 10 on the second. 
• India's first win at Newlands, Cape Town, allowed them to start the new year of 2024 with grace. 
• Despite Aiden Markram's brilliant century, South Africa failed to win the match as India overcame a disastrous start in the first innings.

1. India and South Africa, 2023: 107 overs

India's cricket team managed to secure a memorable victory against South Africa in the Test series due to the impressive bowling performances of Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah. 

2. Australia and South Africa, 1935: 109.2 overs

In the second-shortest Test match ever played, Australia took on South Africa at the MCG. The match lasted just 656 balls. In this match, South Africa recorded their lowest-ever Test total of 36, all out in 23.2 overs. 

3. West Indies and England, 1935: 112 overs

In January 1935, Bridgetown witnessed one of the most unusual and shortest Test matches ever played in cricket history. Persistent rain affected the game, reducing it to 112 overs or 672 balls. West Indies batted first but were quickly dismissed for 102 in 47 overs.

4. England and Australia, 1888: 196 overs

During the Ashes series 1888, a brief match occurred at Old Trafford. The game was played with a different rule than usual, which was 4 balls per over in England Tests at the time. The match lasted only 196 overs, which is equivalent to 1176 balls.

5. England and Australia, 1888: 197 overs

The Lord's Cricket ground witnessed the shortest Test match ever played, lasting just 197 overs (1182 balls).  Australia batted first and scored only 116 runs in 71.2 overs.
