Prime Minister Narendra Modi has added another feather to his cap by becoming the world's most followed leader on the social media microblogging platform X(formerly Twitter). American singer-songwriter and television personality Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, famous as Katy Perry, is the first to have 100 million followers on X.
According to the Morning Consult of the United States of America, Narendra Modi is also the most popular leader in the world.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined the X in 2009 and soon gained a following on the micro-blogging site. In the past three years alone, around 30 million new followers have been added to Prime Minister Modi’s X account.
Narendra Modi has surpassed other world leaders like American President Joe Biden (38.1 million followers), Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed (11.2 million followers), and Pope Francis (18.5 million followers).
Narendra Modi also leads the other Indian politicians within the country. The leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has 26.4 million followers, Samajwadi Party’s Akhilesh Yadav has 19.9 million followers, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has 7.4 million, and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has 27.5 million followers.
Prime Minister Modi has more followers than celebrities like Taylor Swift (95.3 million), Lady Gaga (83.1 million), Kim Kardashian (75.2 million), sportsmen like Virat Kohli (64.1 million), Brazilian footballer Neymar Jr (63.6 million), and American basketball player LeBron James (52.9 million).
Prime Minister Modi is also active on other Social media sites and has nearly 25 million subscribers on YouTube and over 91 million followers on Instagram.
Twitter was founded in 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Evans Williams, Biz Stone, and Noah Glass in California, United States.
The social site was bought by American billionaire Elon Musk in 2022.
He renamed the site as X in July 2023.
X provides an online microblogging service called Tweets. Tweets are short messages of no more than 280 characters.
Subscribers of premium service can send a tweet of up to 25,000 characters.
Headquarters of X: San Francisco, California, United States of America.
