Jammu and Kashmir’s Atika Mir became the first Indian to secure a top-five position at the global level on debut during the seventh round of the IAME UAE Karting Championship at Abu Dhabi’s Formula 1 track – Yas Marina Circuit in the Junior S125 category (age 12-14).

11-year-old racing talent Atika Mir made a brilliant switch from the Mini category (age 8-12) to the Junior S125 category (age 12-14), as she became the first Indian to secure a top-five position at the global level on debut during the seventh round of the IAME UAE Karting Championship at Abu Dhabi’s Formula 1 track – Yas Marina Circuit.
By finishing fifth among 35 drivers in a male-dominated grid, Atika also became the first woman to secure a top-five position in the history of the IAME UAE Championship. She missed the podium by just four-tenths of a second.
The IAME UAE Karting Championship is a major professional kart racing series in the United Arab Emirates, in which young talents compete across various age groups with high-performance IAME X30 engines.
Indian kart racer Atika Mir was born in 2014 in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, and was brought up in the UAE.
The first Indian and Asian girl to secure a top 10 finish in the Rotax Euro Trophy, and the first female winner of the Rotax Max Challenge International Trophy.

Supported by the Formula 1 Academy, Atika could have spent another season dominating the championship in the Mini category (age 8-12), but moving up to the Junior S125 category (age 12-14) in the new year has presented her with a tough challenge.
The karts are 30 kilograms heavier (from 115 kilograms in Mini to 145 kilograms in Junior) and have three times more horsepower (from 10 bhp top speed 105 km per hour to 29 bhp top speed 126 km per hour).
In the heat race, she climbed six positions, and in the pre-final she climbed eight positions to finish fourth, showing mature race craft and overtaking more experienced drivers (both in the category and in age).
Last year, Atika Mir became the first Indian and Asian to be signed by the Formula 1 Academy for its driver program, which is proof of her rapidly rising success in the world of motorsport.
