Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his address to the nation on the occasion of 77th Independence Day on 15 August 2023, announced that the government is working with women self-help groups (SHGs) with a target of creating 2 crore 'Lakhpati Didis' in villages.
At present, about 10 crore women in the country are associated with women self-help groups. Presently in villages, one can see Didi providing medicine in any bank, in Anganwadi and so on.
The Prime Minister spoke in the context of agri-tech and stressed on harnessing the potential of science and technology in rural development.
The Prime Minister said that 15,000 women self-help groups will be given loans and training to operate and repair drones.
In this context, Prime Minister Modi said, “Drone ki Udaan” will be done by these women self-help groups.
The women will be trained in skills like plumbing, LED bulb making and operation and repair of drones.
The objective of this scheme is to encourage women to start micro enterprises.
The Prime Minister had said in this context that it is his dream to make two crore Lakhpati Didis in the villages.
The 'Lakhpati Didi' scheme is already implemented in some states. Now the government is planning to train two crore women under it.
Prime Minister Modi also said in his address that now it is being seen that more women than men are studying STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).
For example, Prime Minister Modi said that the leadership of the Chandrayaan mission is also in the hands of a woman scientist.
G-20 has also accepted India's vision of women-led development. The Prime Minister also said that it is everyone's responsibility to ensure that no atrocities are committed against our daughters.
