India to Host the Second BRICS Anti-Corruption Working Group Meeting in Hyderabad

India will host the Second Meeting of the BRICS Anti-Corruption Working Group (ACWG) and the Second Meeting of the BRICS Expert Network on Asset Recovery in Hyderabad, Telangana, on 4-5 August 2026. The meeting is being organised by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) as part of India's BRICS Presidency 2026. It will be inaugurated by Ms. Rachna Shah, Secretary, DoPT, and will see participation from BRICS member countries, senior policymakers, experts, and officials from anti-corruption and law enforcement agencies.

The meeting follows the theme of India's BRICS Presidency for 2026: "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability." This theme guides all major events being held under India's chairmanship this year.

Background of Anti-Corruption Working Group Meeting

This is the second ACWG meeting of the year. The first meeting was held virtually on 2-3 June 2026. The Hyderabad meeting builds on the outcomes of that earlier session and will be the final ACWG meeting under India's BRICS Presidency in 2026.

What Will Be Discussed at the 2nd Anti-Corruption Working Group Meeting

BRICS members will focus on strengthening cooperation to fight corruption and recover stolen assets across borders. Key discussion points include:

• Working together informally to trace fugitives wanted in corruption cases and support their extradition
• Improving information-sharing through the BRICS Expert Network on Asset Recovery
• Sharing experience on tackling corruption risks linked to FinTech, digital assets, and new digital financial tools

A special side event called "Ethical Governance through Innovation and Tech-Driven Systems" will be held on 5 August 2026. This session will cover topics like digital public procurement, citizen engagement, and using technology to improve transparency in government.
