India's women's cricket team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, defeated Sri Lanka in the final to win gold at the Asian Games 2026 on 22nd September 2026. The match was played at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, and this was India's first gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Games.
This gold is India's first at the current Games and its seventh medal overall. With this win, India's medal tally now stands at one gold, four silver, and two bronze. The team also set their highest-ever total in women's cricket at the Asian Games.
Batting first, India put up a huge total of 216/3. Smriti Mandhana played a key innings of 79 off 45 balls, and Shafali Verma added 48 off 29 balls, the two putting on 99 runs for the first wicket. Richa Ghosh then finished strongly, scoring an unbeaten 49 off just 22 balls, with six fours and three sixes. Harmanpreet Kaur contributed 19 runs. India's batters hit 13 boundaries over the fence during the innings.
In reply, India's bowlers dominated. Deepti Sharma picked up three wickets, while Shafali Verma, Shreyanka Patil and Shree Charani took two wickets each. Sri Lanka were bowled out for just 69 runs, handing India a big 147-run victory.
This is India's second women's cricket gold at the Asian Games, after their first title in 2023. India did not take part when cricket was played at the Games in 2010 and 2014. With this win, India now equals Pakistan, who had won the women's cricket gold in both 2010 and 2014.
The men's cricket event will begin later in the Asian Games 2026. The Shreyas Iyer-led Indian men's team, the defending champions, will start their campaign on 28 September in the second quarterfinal.
