SLINEX-26: 13th India-Sri Lanka Maritime Exercise Concluded in Visakhapatnam

The 13th edition of the India-Sri Lanka bilateral naval exercise, SLINEX-26, has started in Visakhapatnam. It runs for five days, from 17 to 21 September 2026, under the Eastern Naval Command.

SLINEX-26: 5-Day Exercise in Visakhapatnam

SLINEX was first conceptualised in 2005. Over the years, it has become a key platform where the Indian Navy and the Sri Lanka Navy work together, understand each other's methods, and improve interoperability, meaning their ability to operate as one force.

13th edition of SLINEX-26 is linked to India's MAHASAGAR vision, which stands for Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions. Through it, India aims to build a secure, stable, and inclusive maritime environment and strengthen its long-standing naval partnership with Sri Lanka.

India-Sri Lanka SLINEX-26 Exercise Phases

The India-Sri Lanka SLINEX-26 exercise has two phases.

Harbour Phase

This phase is held in port at Visakhapatnam. It began with an opening ceremony and a reception on board INS Kavaratti for the visiting crew of SLNS Sindurala. During this phase, sailors of both navies hold professional discussions, visit each other's ships (cross-deck visits) and share best practices. Yoga sessions, sports, and cultural events are also part of the programme.

Sea Phase

After the harbour activities, the ships will sail out for the Sea Phase. Here the focus shifts to tactical manoeuvres and coordinated operations at sea, which will help both navies work together more smoothly.
