Questions regarding day’s and their themes are asked in various exams. At the global level, the United Nations and its various agencies designate a year, specific days, and weeks as the occasion to mark particular events or topics to promote, through awareness and action, the objectives of the United Nations and its various organisation.
The Government of India or its Ministries also designate a year, specific days, and weeks with a particular theme.
2025 as a Year
United Nations has designated 2025 Year as follows;
International Year of Quantum Science and Technology
- 2022 marks the 100th anniversary of the development of the methods of quantum mechanics that have led to its prominence in both science and technology today,
International Year of Peace and Trust
- Before 2025, the United Nations observed 2021 as the International Year of Peace and Trust.
International Year of Glaciers
- The United Nations has also decided to observe the 21st of March every year as the World Day for Glaciers.
- The first World Day for Glaciers will be observed on 21st March 2025.
International Years of Cooperatives
- Theme: "Cooperatives Build a Better World"
- The International Day of Cooperatives year-long celebration was started in India.
- It was started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the ICA Global Cooperative Conference 2024 on 25 November 2024 in New Delhi.
Union Ministry of Defence
- The Union Ministry of Defence has decided to celebrate 2025 as the “Year of Reform”

Indian Coast Guard Day
- On this day in 1978, the Indian Coast Guard was established under the Union Ministry of Defence.
- It was set up on the recommendation of the K.F. Rustamji committee.
- It observed its 49th raising day in 2025.

2nd February
World Wetlands Day
- First : on 2nd February 2022.
- It marks the adoption of the "Convention on Wetlands of International Importance" in 1971 at the Iranian city of Ramsar.
- 2025 Theme: Protecting Wetlands for our Common Future.
- The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change organised this year's celebration at the Parvati Arga Ramsar Site in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh.
4th February
World Cancer Day
- It was established by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC).
- The first World Cancer Day was observed on 4th February 2020.
- Theme from 2025-27: United by Unique.
10th February
World Pulse Day
- The United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution in December 2018 to observe 10th February as World Pulse Day.
- First: On 10th February 2018
- 2025 Theme :Pulses: Bringing diversity to agrifood systems.
- India is the largest producer, consumer, and importer of Pulses in the world.
National Deworming Day
- Observed in India only.
- First: 2015
- Now, it is conducted on the 10th of February and the 10th of August of every year.
- Aim: to deworm all children aged 1-19 years through the platform of schools and Anganwadi Centers.
- The children are administered single-dose Albendazole tablets to treat Soil-Transmitted Helminthiases (STH), also known as parasitic intestinal worm infection.
- Administered by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
11th February
Unani Day
- Only in India.
- It is observed to mark the birth anniversary of the eminent freedom fighter, Unani physician, and educator Hakim Ajmal Khan.
- First: 11th February 2018.
International Day of Women and Girls in Science
- In 2015, the United Nations General Assembly declared 11 February as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
- First : 2016

National Productivity Day
- The day commemorates the establishment of the National Productivity Council (NPC) on February 12, 1958.
- The NPC comes under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
- Aim: to generate awareness about the importance of productivity in achieving economic growth

World Radio Day
- The United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution on 18 December 2012 to observe 13 February as World Radio Day.
- On 13th February 1946, the United Nations established the United Nations Radio, which is currently known as UN News.

Global Tourism Resilience Day
- The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution on 6 February 2023 to declare 17th February as Global Tourism Resilience Day.
- First: 17 February 2023.

World Day of Social Justice
- On 26 November 2007, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution to observe 20th February as World Day of Social Justice.
- First: 20 February 2008.
- 2025 Theme: Empowering Inclusion: Bridging Gaps Of Social Justice
21st February
International Mother Language Day
The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) declared 21st March as International Mother Language Day in 1999.
It was proposed by Bangladesh.

National Science Day
- On this day in 1928, Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman discovered the scattering of photons phenomena.
- This was later known as Raman effects.
- He got the Nobel prize in Physics for this discovery in 1930.
- First : 28 February 1987.
- 2025 Theme: Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science & Innovation for Viksit Bharat.
